The Drum Guides and Midi Notes

The Drum Guides and Midi Notes

The drum guides are built on 16 step grids that can be used with any software or hardware you use.

With that said, here's a post specifically showing you how the guides translate to midi notes.

We'll take a look at the guide filled in with a few examples and what those look like in a midi form.

Let's dive in.

The Drum Guides and Midi Notes

First let's take a look at the guide with 16 steps:

a blank Drum Guide and a blank midi piano roll

Pretty boring and blank. The important thing here is we have the midi notes set up on a 16 step grid just like the drum patterns.

Drum Guide and Kicks and Snares

Now let's look at what both the drum guide and midi notes look like with a couple kicks and a couple snares:

The Drum Guide and midi piano roll with a basic kick-snare drum pattern

Here you can see the drum patterns and mid notation are basically the same.

Drum Guide and a Beat Pattern

Now let's fill it in with a more rounded out beat pattern:

Drum Guides Fill Notations and Midi

In some guides we include fills with a special notation. Let's take a look at what this looks like in midi format:

the Drum Guide and midi notes with a Fill notation where you play two notes in the same step

Let's take a closer look at this notation

2 notes notation in the Drum guide and in the midi piano roll

Here you can see two notes in the same step. In the drum guide, it's indicated with the number two but in Midi you see the two notes in the same step.

Drum Guides and Fill Notations part two.

here's another example of the fill notation where the drum sound is being delayed. Here's what it looks like in Midi format:the Drum Guide and midi notes showing a fill notation where the drum sound is slightly delayed

Let's take a closer look

A delayed note notation in the Drum Guide and in a midi piano roll

Here you can see the midi note slightly delayed. Normally the note would start right where the line is but here we are offsetting the start by a bit.

Drum Guides and Fill Notations part three.

Here's the previous two examples combined in one:
